meduzone, an interactive medical education exhibit was created by Information Visualization and Innovative Research (IVIR Inc.) and was open at the Gulfcoast Wonder and Imagination Zone (GWIZ) Science Museum in Sarasota, Florida.

The combined efforts of the local community as well as some of IVIR Inc.’s business and research partners contributed to this informative, interactive and educational exhibit. Sarasota and Manatee Health Departments joined together to represent both counties’ health concerns and initiatives. Local technical schools, colleges and universities including Manatee and Sarasota Technical Institutes, State College of Florida, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), University of South Florida and Florida State University defined the career paths, educational requirements and local salaries associated with specific health care related opportunities.

In addition to the design and execution of meduzone, IVIR Inc. installed a proprietary learning assessment tool to test the ability to measure informal learning within the exhibit space. Medical education and technology displays, coordinated by IVIR Inc., included a human patient simulator from CAE Healthcare, 3-D anatomy holograms from Zebra Imaging, anatomy models and manikins from  Simulaids/NASCO, and “Holo Anatomy” 3-D technology from Biolucid. A timeline of 200 years of medical history was supported by a collection of medical artifacts on loan from the South Florida Museum.

This exhibit was not exclusive to children and educated visitors of all ages about local health concerns, healthcare related needs, career paths and medical education opportunities. meduzone was a perfect example of what can be accomplished when communities work together towards a common goal.
