IVIR's involvement in the Prolonged Field Care initiative is to make recommendations for changes to the current medic and corpsman training and to develop modular prototype medical simulations for Prolonged Field Care Training (PFCT). These simulation systems will consist of commercially available, off the shelf components. PFCT prepares medical first responders for "No Evacuations, Now What (NENW)" which can occur when the local tactical situation prevents medical evacuation for up to 72 hours. These simulations will give medics and corpsmen a chance to practice the types of advanced skills necessary to prepare them for the challenges they may face on future battlefields.
